Adoption or Creation

Whether you have just joined neopets, or are a long-time player, everyone with less than four pets faces a difficult desicion: to adopt or to create a neopet, so I have decided to write this guide that shows the pros and cons of adopting and creating neopets in three points.

1. Names
When adopting a neopet, one of the biggest problems people face is the names. Not all too many people want a pet called "xxx123754_j131" or "lol_lol_pet". However, there is not much choice when creating pets, either, because most names are already taken. This probably leaves you saying "so what's the difference?!". Well, it's quite simple. Creation names are more personal, more special. You know you chose that name for a reason, not some guy out there who couldn't think of anything else. In the end effect it's better to create a pet if you want a special name for it.

2. Colors
Many people want to have a pet in just the right color, which can be as basic as yellow or as fancy as faerie. When creating a neopet, you get to choose what basic color you want your neopet to be. When you adopt a neopet, the pet is sometimes the wrong color, and, if you no longer have your starter paintbrushes, that can be an obsticle when adopting the pet. You can always leave and come back a while later, usually the pet is availible in the proper color. You might even get a limited edition or painted pet, which you cannot create, so adoption wins this round.

3. Ethics
Last, but not least, the final argument: ethics. There are tons of homeless neopets, sitting around in the shelter waiting for a home, whilest at the same time more and more pets are being created. The question here is: do you want to get a pet from the pound, where you will have to adjust to the name/personality, or are you going to create a pet, that will most likely suite you quite well, but might face the same fate? With so many homeless neopets, it's almost foolish to make a new pet. For every pet you create instead of adopting, a pound pet is left in the lonely shelter.

All in all, adoption wins two to one. The choice, however, is yours. What do you want? This guide was written to help you make your decision, not to make it for you. Whatever you do, choose wisely. Don't make a choice that you will later regret. And, most importantly, have fun with your new pet!
