Applying for Guild councils
Almost everyone wants to be on guild council and quite often people that deserve to be on council are passed over because of the way they wrote up there application, so this is a handy little guide, that can be very useful, for you to use when applying for a guild council position and impressing your guild owner.First off find a guild that you can actually be apart of the council for. Chances are that if the council is full and you neomail the owner of that guild and ask to be on council, that they are just going to ignore you or I have even known some guild members to be blocked off the guild for that.
I have known it to happen a lot, trust me. Also make sure that you know what the owner is looking for. If she has asked that you must know HTML to be on council and you don’t know any, don’t apply. Most guild owners will accept you if you are learning but make sure you know the requirements. If the guild owner is nice, and there are no requirements you can see, maybe try being nice and very politely asking if there are any. Another thing to look at would be the Guild Councils and Good Members guides because that will provide some tips on what guild owners might be looking for, and it also might help you give a good impression so she might put you on council!
The Don’ts
The first thing with applying for Guild Council, is that you never use chat speak, StIcKy CaPs or numb3r w0rds in your application. I have seen this with my guild lot and the first think I always think is “n00b!” Make you application look proper and make it look nice so that your Guild Leader can actually read it.
The second thing you don’t want to do is mention anything like these things: I love your guild so pick me, I love (topic) it rules, Only saying “I can help”, I need to be on council, the guild won't be a success without me and the worst one which I have actually deleted and member off my guild for is: I am better then any other member so you have to pick me!
That is just plain rude and selfish!
Also don’t try and blackmail them with money or threats. Either they will take your money and never put you on council or there will report you. Either way you lose something horrible plus you probably will never get on council in that guild ever.
Writing up your form
First rule, make sure you have read the don’ts section of this guide or don’t say I didn’t warn you! Other then that, know what you want to say. Don’t go to write up your application and then notice that you don’t know what you want to say or how you are going to say it, prepare and maybe writing it up somewhere else first so you can edit it and add to it later on.
Make sure that you know the rules and everything before you write it up that way you don’t get caught by surprise if you make a mistake, again, try writing it up first before you send it in.
Be nice and use manners. I was shocked the other day when I found and application that my guild member had signed it with I would really appreciate it if you would give me the change to help your guild more ma’am. He is now on my council as co-owner as someone else that had exactly the same talents as him but used no manners what so ever.
After your application is sent
When you application is finally sent though give it sometime. Don’t just leave the guild after a day because the owner hasn’t responded. There is good chance that they either are away and haven’t seen it or are looking at your behavior on the guild. Some owners will even send you a neomail asking you about other things you may do for the guild and some ideas.
If you don’t get on council don’t give up hope and leave the guild if you really like the guild, simply ask the owner why you didn’t get on council. If they say something like you are too young don’t even bother trying again. If they simply say that you need to help out in the guild more before they trust you then stay in the guild, be active, make suggestions and be a good member. After a while resubmit your application and maybe you will get on council.
