Instead of searching for hours and hours on the internet only to be disappointed by a lengthy tutorial that has abolsutely nothing to do with what you were trying to find out in the first place, have written an index for people looking for short explanations on basic website add-ons and other applications.

Affiliates: These are sites that you basically become friends with. Most sites apply for affiliates to get advertised on your site. It's almost like a link exchange, but you watch out for one another when a site is in need (within reason).

Chatbox: Chatboxes, or shoutboxes, are used for visitors to leave comments. They are a bit of a hassle to keep clean so keep in this mind before signing up for one. You can get one pre-hosted here and here.
Copyright: Legal protection of graphics, tutorials and other published material which you have originally created. Different countries have different punishments for copyright infringement but copyrights are upholded internationally.
CSS: Cascading Style Sheets are used to format HTML. Often used on website layouts and other layouts on Neopets, CSS can be extremely helpful when it comes to making your site/page look neat and tidy. Recommended for all layouts.
Cutenews: A news posting system that requires a host which supports PHP. This allows you to create accounts for staff who can post news on your site without accessing your account. You can download it here.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions. Useful if you receive a lot of repetitive questions by email and do not want to keep answering the same things over and over.
Firefox: Type of internet browser that loads pages faster than Internet Explorer.
FTP: File Transfer Protocol. A program that uploads and downloads to and from your host easily without having to use a web-based file manager.

Hex Color Chart: Web-based color codes that are safely viewed in browsers. Consists of a # and a combination of 6 numbers or letters to formulate the color.
HTML: Hypertext Markup Language. Used on website pages to format the page to the webmaster's desire.

PHP: Server-side scripting language used alongside HTML to form useful applications such as news posters, uploaders, plugboards etc.
Plugboard: A system where you can enter your website link and button for a free advertisement on another site who has a plugboard. You can pre-host one here.

Redirection: Uses a set of frames to redirect te URL in the address bar to another destination. Recommended for sites with long addresses (eg. freewebs.com/my_name_here). You can sign up for a redirection URL here and here.

Spam: Short pointless annoying message. These are usually a sentence with less than 3 words and heaps of emoticons or exclamation marks. These should be deleted from your site to maintain a sense of cleanliness.

Topsites: A system that allows people to sign up and rank their sites against all the members of the topsites. These are mostly based on unique pageviews, although some require visitors to click and vote. You can get one pre-hosted here or download and install from here if you have a host that supports PHP.
Traffic: The amount of visitors a site gets. Can be measured by an ordinary counter or a traffic counter supplied by the site's host.

Unique Pageviews: The numbers of inidivdual visitors a site gets. This excludes multiple returns to the page and only highlights the number of people who visit the page and not the number of times the page has been viewed.
